Every action has a reaction, though this maybe a science rule it also applies to life. If we act well we are rewarded if we do not we suffer consequences at least in school. In the Greek mythology, “I am Scylla, the daughter of Nisus. I surrender to you my country and my father’s house. I ask no reward but yourself; for love of you, I have done it. See here the purple lock! With this I give you my father and his kingdom.” Scylla’s actions got her killed by her own father, maybe she was acting for love but she betrayed her father and the most important thing you had to have in ancient Greece was loyalty to your family. Our actions are the reflection of who we are she showed a passion for love and a strive to accomplish what she wants even if it means acting in a wrong way. Scylla is seen as a modern day woman that follows her heart, with no importance of anything else. However, Minus was not a modern day men and reject her because of the difference.
This thought of disobeying family just appeared recently the basis of ancient Greece were family, loyalty at least I can deduce it from the readings of the mythology. And the myth of Scylla is a weird case were people are punished for their differences.
